Bangkok, Thailand

The cruise ship docked at the port of Laem Chabang, a 2 hour drive from Bangkok. We are traveling to Kanchanaburi, North of Bangkok and 4 hours from Laem Chabang, for our tour. Kanchanaburi is located on the Kwai River and our first stop was the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery where Allied POWs who died working on “The Death Railway” bridge are laid to rest. This bridge was made famous by the book and movie, “Bridge over the River Kwai”

After a wonderful Thai lunch our next stop was the Tiger Temple run by Buddhist monks. At the Tiger Temple we were able to get very close to the tigers.

After playing with the tigers we took an elephant ride.

Following the elephant ride we stopped at the new “Bridge over the River Kwai” located 100 yards up river from the site of the bridge built by POWs.

We were up early in the morning for our return trip to Bangkok. We passed through the Kanchanaburi street market and watched the Buddhist monks make their morning rounds.

A cool drink from a street vendor was a great relief to the heat (90+).

A visit to a gem factory and another wonderful Thai lunch followed by a 2 hour drive to the cruise ship dock. Back at the ship where we could see the Chinese lanterns in the window of Fred and Bet’s cabin.

Holy moley..I can not believe you were so close to the tigers! Did they have their teeth and claws? That is just amazing. Have they ever turned on anyone at the Tiger Temple?
